🏠 Even better: the pre-loss inventory
After a fire, water damage or a burglary, the hardest part is often proving what you owned and what condition it was in.
You make the inventory now, while all is well: photograph your rooms, your valuables and your receipts, sign, and Oscar records the fingerprint on the Bitcoin blockchain. The date of your “before” photos can then be proven.
Every year
A reminder is added to your phone’s calendar on the anniversary date. Oscar also reminds you on its home screen.
After building work
Enter the end date: a reminder asks you to retake the photos and add the invoices.
Weather warning: alerted on your phone
Choose your département: in case of an orange or red warning (thunderstorms, hail, wind, floods…), Oscar sends you a notification so you can update your photos beforehand, if it is safe.
If something happens
Attach the inventory to your claim file and retake photos of the same spots: your insurer sees before and after.
For your insurer
The ZIP holds your original files, the signed summary, the certificate and the blockchain proof. Oscar drafts the email to your insurer, who can check the file’s integrity on a verification page, with no account. Report the loss straight away: the deadline is in your policy.
Your photos stay with you
Everything happens on your phone or computer. Only the file’s fingerprint, which cannot be used to recover its content, is sent to the Bitcoin blockchain, the most recognised and secure in the world. Keep a copy of the ZIP somewhere other than your phone.
Good to know
Anchoring proves that a file existed on a given date and has not changed since. It does not prove that the account is accurate or that the photos were taken that day, and it does not replace the accident report or your claim to your insurer. Frequently asked questions
Is it really free?
Yes, with no account and no subscription. A free account only lets you keep the file’s proof in your OSCAR vault, if you wish.
What if I have no network?
The file is signed and kept on your device. Anchoring starts again when the network returns if the page is open, or when you reopen the file. The proof’s date is that of the successful anchoring.
Does my insurer need an account?
No. They receive the ZIP or the PDF and can check everything on a verification page, with no account. The proof can also be checked with a standard blockchain verification tool.
Does it replace the accident report form?
No. Fill in the accident report too and report the loss to your insurer within the deadline in your policy. The Oscar file is a piece of dated evidence that supports them.
Why make an inventory before a loss?
Because afterwards it is hard to prove what you owned. Photos and receipts dated by the blockchain before the loss show that your belongings existed and what condition they were in.
How do weather alerts work?
On the inventory page, choose your département and allow notifications. In case of an orange or red warning for a weather event that can damage a home, Oscar alerts you. No account or email; on iPhone, first add Oscar to the home screen. For mainland France.
